Hotshot is missing!

Rosebuds Feb 18, 2009 11:30 AM

He escaped and is either wedged somewhere that I can't reach, or found a way out of the sun room. I have turned that room upside down! I keep going out there hoping he will come out to find food, but until today, it has been cool enough that he has probably been asleep.

Yall cross your fingers that he is just taking a nap and will emerge soon.

My fingers and toes...all crossed! What time of day do you think he went missing? Did you check the highest points in the room? How about focusing a heat lamp above a space on the floor with his favorite salad? Hope you find him basking atop someone elses cage. Keep us posted and good luck!

What about a small, clear container full of chirping crickets? Scoping that out might get him to spend more time out in the open.

He escaped toward the evening on Sunday. The little bugger got through a small breech in the screen lid under the basking light. I just hope it didn't burn him! I searched until the sun went down, then really searched the next day. That is an added on room that is not connected to the inside of the house. Its a porch made into a sun room basically. There are cracks under the doors and along the wall where he could have either wedged himself or got out.

I have a tank on the floor with another collared in it and lots of lights. I figure he would be attracted to it. I also have my crix in tanks on the floor near that tank, so he could see them as well. I will set up a basking light for him and see if I can catch him basking, but I have seen no sign f him.

DRAT! Why would he leave a place where he has everything, including heat?? Especially toward evening! What are the outdoor temps during the day? Unfortunately, I know what is beyond your house. Infinite blending in and hiding places. Would a Collared survive outside where you are??

That's a shame, I hope you can find him. Did you ever find that pair that got out? Well never give up, sometimes they just APPEAR I sure hope so!

The pair never showed back up. But Maureen, he could actually do quite well here. He is a Kansas Missouri Collared, and the environments are very similar, at least climate wise. He will just get really lonely.

I hope the little bugger shows back up. I don't feel like he is gone like I did that desert pair. I think he might still be in the room somewhere. I might take room apart again on friday . . .

The pair that escaped before made a dash for it as the hurricane hit. This is different. I say, follow your gut and dismantle the whole room as quickly and carefully as possible. Perhaps he slipped into a crevice between boxes and can't climb out, or something like that. I know you won't sleep well until you have visited every nook and cranny of that room!

He is pretty little. I remember some years back that a large healthy female Iguana named Lucy was found in a neighbor's tree in Laguna Beach after going missing 9 years earlier. She was a tiny greeny when she went missing but her markings were unmistakable. (She thought she was on vacation in Puerto Vallarta!)

Point is, if you "feel" he is still there, I'll bet he is!
