my veild has been outside a lot lately and when i bring him back into his cage, he spends pretty much the rest of his night and the next morning until i put him out, on the wall of his cage... why do you think this is?? he has plenty of highways to roam and plenty of cover to hide if he is hot

i have a panther(he's 5 1/2 months old) and he pretty much does the same thing except mine spends most of the time on the top of the cage cruising around. it's kind of funny cause while he is outside he doesn't roam very much at all. the past two days i've tried something new. after i bring him in i put him back inside the cage and leave the door open about 6 inches. both days he went to the top of the inside of the cage and then makes his way to the door and the goes out and gets on top of the cage or on the outside top of the door. he pretty much sits there and moves just a bit until HE is ready to go back inside his cage, which has taken about an hour or so. once back inside he goes back to his basking light and then to his favorite branch on the ficus. once he has gotten there i closed the cage door.

Hey Dennis, I think that is a good idea, to let your guy explore on HIS terms after coming back in....probably makes the transition easier for him

hey matt today was the third day i've let him explore the outside of his cage after being outside for a while and i really think it is a good way to let him get back in. so much so i am think about hanging a plant from the ceiling near his cage so he spends more time out after being outside. i just have to find a "safe" plant that i like that will also hang ok. definately not the ficus. maybe an umbrella or something like that.

try a pothos, you can buy one that has been allowed to grow long vines. Hang it from the ceiling and let the vines drape onto the cage top....he can climb up, down, or perch in the planter.

try a pothos. If hung from the ceiling above the cage, the vines can be allowed to hang down onto the cage. He can climb up, down, or just hang out on top og the plant. Jeez, what about an eventual free roam setup? Fat chance huh? hehe....It would be nice though. I hear that aside from exploring everyonce in a while, they tend to stay in their tree, as that is more natural for them.
