Hey Don,

Don't know about the gun laws but a hunting liscense in NM is $90 for out of staters and AZ has the option of a 3 or 5 day (can't remember which) for around $48 or an annual at around $152.

I don't know details, but I know that AZ gun laws are pretty lax. you might be able to find a good link on NRA website

I am no authority, but I spoke to AZ fish and game guy once and he said that a handgun was fine as along as it was not concealed in any way. I am pretty sure that NM will allow handguns but I am not sure of the nuances. I am pretty sure that they have reciprocity for most states that have a CHL, but like I said I am not sure of the nuances for NM law.

All along the border you can assume that human trafficking, drug mules and other nefarious things are happening. And if you are alone in a remote area when you stumble across something like that it can go sideways on you, or you can pass right by it and never know.

If you do go to such a place to hunt I would suggest that your real #1 effort be to pay attention to what is all around you, and if something does not feel right leave.
