aggressive juvenile kingsnake

pisces842001 Sep 10, 2003 09:28 PM

I have an agressive juvenile blotched kingsnake. She is pretty feisty and likes to bite. I know snakes go alot on scent of things but if I was to use gloves to hold her with to get her used to be held again would that be ok? I wasn't sure whether they also went by scent or just being picked up and held. Any one who can give me some info I would be much appreciative.

my advice is if the bites are talurable just let it bite you and dont put it down wene it dous bite. i used this tacktick on a snake when i worked at a petstore and it seemed to work. luckly for me i havent had to try this at home all 3 of my snakes are mild temperd most of the time and i have never bene bite by any of them.

Well, is she rattling her tail, musking and nipping or is she straight up chewing on you? The first would be a purely defensive action which wouldn't have to do with scent but from being 'attacked' by a looming object. A small cage hook actually works wonders in this instance by getting the snake into your hands without scaring it. The gloves might help if it's actually a feeding response, although the first thing to try would be feeding more.

Two very good answers...which is why (if not for breeding) I prefer males....Frank
