Has anyone seen this before?

bam171bam Feb 18, 2009 07:40 PM

I have a 5 year old proven breeder that has bred successfully for the last 3 years. He has been giving it to every girl i put him in with this year. Just last week when i was taking him out of one of the girls cages he had a big bulge near his tail. There was no drainage or no prolapse. I've kept him isolated and soak him in warm water every 3 or so days. It has been getting smaller, but does anyone have any ideas?

He over did it. It should get better, but may not ever look the same.

What sort of bedding was it?

I only ask because a buddy of mine has a male that was kept on those sani chips, and the poor little guys vent looks like a bad case of wrestlers cauliflower ear.

btw..I use newspapers.

i keep my snakes on shredded aspen but the vet told me that its easer on smaller bedding like sani chips.

my corn had to go threw a intense antibiotic treatment and had to have the infection drained. it left alot of scare tissue and he might be sterile witch would be a tragedy since he is a several hundred dollar snake. il know if hes any good this year.

but i would defiantly recommend getting the snake into a vet. it could be fatal.

I hear ya...That post was mostly for bam bams benefit really.

I used to use shredded aspen, but i got tired of babysitting the little ones while they swallowed..I once had a 90g hatchling try to swallow a nice chunk of it while eating.(had to grab a pair of tweezers and play "operation"...it wasn't fun.)

Good luck with your male.

I dont have a problem with feeding my only because i feed in separate containers, i seam to get a better response from all my snakes that way than when i fed in cage.
and my male has been mating with my big anery het snow already so with any luck il get some ultramels het for anery and motley by this summer.

Thanks for all the input guys. I use mostly sheddred aspen, but my messy snakes i use Cypress. I've used these as bedding for the last 10 years and have never had a problem. He has an appointment with the vet on monday, i was just hoping someone was gonna say, they've had it happen and it goes away with a little rest..haha. But anyways, thanks again for the help.
