We weren't going to say anything, I hate talking about the death of a pet, but we hope that this information will help someone in the future. We have had a 12 foot female albino granite for the last 2 1/2 years. She was a very sweet snake, never made an agressive move toward anybody. Her nickname was "The Slug" because we could put her in the yard for hours and she wouldn't stray more than about 5 feet. She produced the 2nd ever clutch of 1/2 dwarfs in 2007 and will be missed immensely.
She died on February 1st, she laid 18 dud eggs last year and unknown to us she still had a few duds in her. When she tried to ovulate this year the follicles had no where to go and her oviduct ruptured. We really feel bad because we own an ultrasound and should have checked her out, but just never thought about this happening.
Our albino green female laid 57 dud eggs last year and since this has happened we have ultrasounded her and she is fine. If you have a snake lay duds we strongly recommend that you get that snake ultrasounded to make sure she has passed all the duds.
Here are some pictures of her. The first one is of her and the dwarf burm mating. She produced 19 healthly babies from this pairing, so her legacy will continue.
