We should all know about HR669 at this point (the proposed ban on all python species), but here's an issue I'm still not clear about: if it passes--God forbid--what happens to the collections we currently have? Will they need to be surrendered or euthanized? Does anybody know the particulars about that aspect of this bill? Would there be a grandfathering for current collections, provided they aren't bred, sold, traded, imported or carried across state lines?
It's totally freaking me out, especially since you check the other forums (blood, ball, retic, burmese) and, by-in-large, it's just business as usual and small talk, like many people have no idea it's even coming. Or, some sort of cavalier belief that it won't pass or doesn't really matter.
This bill IS our darkest hour and biggest challenge as python collectors and enthusiasts. If it passes, it sure seems like we're DONE.
