Colors???

jhodges27 Feb 19, 2009 12:58 PM

I have a several month old Leo, and I am a first time owner. I had a question about if/when Leo's develop their color. When I bought my Leo she was just an infant, her and all the other Leos around her were a pinkish/maroon color. A few months later she has developed white on her belly and a bownish tint for her body. I was hopin that sooner or later she would develop the spots that the Leos are known for or at least a more vibrant hue. Shes feed about 5 food items a day all shaked in a Vitamin suppliment, and she is very lively and active. I've tried researching the issue but have not found anything concrete.

So will I wake up one day to find a colorful spotted Leo, or what I see is basically what I'm getting.

Thanks for all the help!!!

It entirely depends on the polygenetic traits that are are in the gecko's genotype. Other than that, there isn't much I can tell you other than wait and watch.

Do you have a picture? Usually the majority of the color and pattern change is completed once the gecko hits 30-35 grams.

You might just have a hypomelanistic(Hypo) gecko, which is a reduction of black pigment..........usually these geckos are worth more in as far as market prices go for different "morphs".

Here's one of my holdback males from and 08 July clutch when he was a neonate

and here he is now at 58 grams

I never saw my Leo when she hatched but she was brown when I bought her. She then changed to yellow with a blue head and violet stripes before changing to a full yellow. I never expected the changes in my wildest dreams and I'm so proud of her.

With out a picture we can't be sure but it is a possibility that you may have a blizzard or super snow albino. If you do have one of those you won't get the dark spotted gecko you were looking for. Post us a picture and maybe we could help you better. gl
