Pueblan Feeding Trouble

jareese219 Feb 19, 2009 02:09 PM

Hi there! Just wanted some advice...I'm a proud owner of a 3.5 year old Pueblan Milk. She's always been a great feeder and I've never seen her refuse to eat prekilled mice outside of the week before a shed. However, she recently shed (~ a week ago), but is now refusing thawed mice despite showing mild interest and behaving as if she is searching for food. Has anyone else experienced this or should I be concerned? Its been about 2.5 weeks since her last meal. Thanks for your help!

try a live fuzzy rat or a big pile of fuzzy mice. this always works for my big male.

There are dozens of reasons your snake may have gone off feed. This is not uncommon! Some of my snakes have gone off feeding for over a month. As it turns out, sometimes their just not hungry. but alot of factors can cause this. Have you done anything different with her? Whats the humidity? What kind of hides do you have? What is the temperature of the enclosure? Is she acting different in any way? Has she bred recently? Does she have fresh water at all times? What if any do you use for lighting? What was her last meal? so on and so on and so on..............................

I feed my milks smaller than normal items....as you said...a pile of fuzzies rather than a big mouse....

....maybe it's just tired of frozen dinners....take it to In-and-OUT Burger?.........

If after 3.5 years your snake has never missed a meal untill now consider yourself very lucky.

Smoking pale Doug. They are a soft spot for me and I will have to fold and get some one day. I agree with Doug, I recently had a snake eat after 47 days. Healthy as a horse, just went off feed for a while.

searching for nest chamber?

....threw mine together this week...he wents nuts over both girls......

did not brumate campbelli...and never will again....

so maybe she is thinking other things than food?....

....I don't sweat a snake not eating unless it's been a few to many feedings.....sometimes months....depends on snake...

2.5 weeks is nothing. i have a garter snake i caught in Colorado in 2003 that at least once/year goes 3 months without a meal. No, I do not brumate either! In fact, he just completed his 3 month fast by stealing a large mouse from my big yellow rat he lives with. Now he looks like he swallowed a baby hippo. More than once I figured he was simply at the end of his road, only to get voracious again.

I have an eastern milk, adult female , that ate 6 times from brumation to brumation....then the next spring ate 6 times then stopped again....last summer...then thankfully she took to her new home and me and actually started eating again for a few months....this year she ate right out of brumation and ate like 4 times so far.....hopefully she'll breed.....we'll see....

..so.......if they are healthy and can live with 6 meals a year.....they'll make it a long time....

... maybe they think they are ball pythons?......

Just wanted to say thanks for all the responses. I'll just wait it out with her, certainly not worried about her starving to death just seemed odd as she had been such a consistent feeder was curious if this was a sign of possible health issues. But I think everyone is right, she seems healthy as a horse! So thanks for all your help!
