First shed tips

SecondsOut Feb 19, 2009 07:17 PM

Hello all,

As a first time BP owner, you all have been so very helpful. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. I noticed today that my little guys eyes are cloudy, and it appears that he is going to shed. Any tips on the best ways to assist him during shed? Soaking, husbandry, spraying, etc.. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks again.

Best to all,

Lee aka Seconds Out

If you have good husbandry you don't need to do anything he'll shed just fine -- if you live in a dry region you might want to spritz his cage with a little water to raise the humidity -- otherwise just let him do what he needs to do.

He seems to be a bit lethargic the past few days. Is that normal before a shed?

Bolitochrome Feb 20, 2009 08:47 AM

Yes, very normal. Especially when his eyes go cloudy, because during this period he is essentially blind. Most snakes will tend to hang out in the same spot for about a week to ten days before their shed. He also might not eat, and some keepers recommend not even offering after the eyes go cloudy, so don't be surprised if he stops.

Should I increase the humidity in the tank as soon as his eyes go cloudy?

humidity and make sure he has something to rub against, such as a rock.
