Yet another...."hatchling that won't eat"

drako32186 Sep 10, 2003 10:33 PM

Okay, I know this must be getting annoying, but my baby won't eat. I got him, um, it must have been late July, or early August. He still hasn't eaten. The thing is, I've been watching him and he spins in circles alot, and ends up all upside down and stuff. Is it possible that he's like...retarded? Does that happen in snakes? I feel like a flaming idiot for asking this, but I don't know what to do for him. I tried leaving a pink in there for like 5 or 6 hours and he didn't touch it, and tonight, overnight I'm leaving a brained pink. Then tomorrow, I'm trying the fresh anole and a mouses tail if that doesn't work.

Any other suggestions would be great, he's so little a puny...

Thanks

in this order from least to most:

0.) Force fed mouse tail
0.5) anole scented pinky (never works)
1.) f/t pink (probably 70% no problem eaters)
2.) Live pink (works well if given to hatchlings day-of hatching
3.) decapitated f/t pink (some stubborn eaters)
4.) Live anole (nothing gets feeding instinct going like this)
5.) fresh killed or f/t anole (A BIG HIT WITH THE NON-EATERS!)
6.) Sticking anole tail, arm or leg in pinky mouth (EXCELLENT RESULTS!)

Good luck, I'm betting you have great success with the different anole techniques...

to not attempt to feed a non-feeder every night. They should have "stress rests" for about 3 days inbetween feedings. The spinning and ending upside down is definately not normal, I'd take it to a vet or back to the breeder.

Talk to whereever you got the snake, My "kids" are never upside down unless they just got pushed out (by me) of some hide tube and landed that way. and they always correct themselves right away. If that snake is from a reputable breeder, I would think they would either replace or refund your $. You should go to the vet, but I'd talk to the breeder for sure.

Unfortunately for me, I got this one from a pet store that doensn't seem to care about it now that it's not thier problem anymore. So I took it to a vet and got it some medicine. Now all I can do is wait and hope.
