Herpstat or Helix ?????

stevebp Feb 20, 2009 10:41 PM

I'm making an incubator out of a wine fridge and i'm kind of stuck on which thermostat to use. Should I use a herpstat or a helix? I have a helix on my rack so I have experience with that but none with a herpstat. Thanks in advance for all the help.

I've personally always used Helix controls and love them.

Trust me on this one.....We have used many of several different brans over the years, and have a special box where the "faulty" stats go. That box now holds several Helix, but not one Herpstat (and only one Johnson, btw).

Used Helix for years and got smaret and replaced everything with Herpstats. Smartest moe I could have made.
As for the fan, at the top blowing down.

I've used both Helix and Herpstat, both have worked. I prefer the Herpstat only because you can fine tune with the smaller degree increments.

We have used both here in the past (plus a few others) and Herpstat gets my vote as the best.

scratch one more notch on the post for herpstat

other thermostats go on the donation table at herp society meetings

....when you compare quality, features, price and service no other stat comes close to the herpstat, frankly it's a no brainer!

Both are good Tstats. I have three Herpstats and they work just as good. As for the fan I would put it on the bottom aiming up. Remember heat rises. So pointing it up you produce better air flow.

Opposite. The heat rises, so it's already pooled at the top, all you want to do is move that hot air sitting up top down to the bottom; top to bottom, not bottom to top.

We use the Johnson Control thermos throughout our facility, including for our incubators. They are priced very well, and are super reliable. We hatched out over 1200 eggs last year using the Johnson Control units.

Have to agree with Robyn on this one-Though I use and love the Herpstats, we're pretty much buying Johnsons exclusively now.....

HI,

I have not used the Helix but I am using the Herpstat and Herpstat ND on my incubator and rack. I love them because they really do keep the temps very tight and you can read the degrees down to the 10ths. The herpstat ND has alarms for high low temps and the ND (night time Drop) feature is seem less. I bought my Herpstat ND from George at GLKherp, and he was just amazing with his depth of knowledge on how to use the Herpstat and how to set up the rack. Thanks again George for the time you gave me to me set up my rack safely. Anyway I hope this helps as well. By the way I have used the Johnson too and it is a great thermostat for the money, but I honestly am hooked to the Herpstat by Spyder Robotics.

Best regards,
Bill
