Just a hide idea

katiehfnr Feb 21, 2009 07:46 PM

I went to walmart, looking for odd ball stuff for my snake enclosures. and got a great idea while in the clearance isle. They had toothbrush holders. It kinda simulates a dark hide, and different ones have bigger holes ect and i dunno bout u but i can find these in all different sizes. Just a idea for the younger snakes and what not. I get the ones that the lids can pop off just in case they would take up hiding in there and never come out, lol. Here is a picture. by the way i know its no naturalistic looking but hey if it makes them happy.

Ted looks like a cool snake. Can we see him?
I use the tooth paste boxes, spagetti boxes or crushed paper towel rolls.Snakes want a hide the same dimentions as they are. They dont like head room.

The only problem with that hide is if you have to get the snake out for some reason. I like boxes and such so I can open the back if I need to. Pretty cool otherwise.

Yeah, he has other hides but he loves that one. and the lid pops off and on in case i need to retrieve him for any odd reason. he/ she is just a regular baby nelson.
compared to the other milk snake and the 2 pueblans i have he usually "tolerates" me handling him.
These pictures were from when i was cleaning his cage out last month, i put them all in critter keepers, other wise the husband freaks out and is afraid they will get loose.

nice snake. I did not know that lid popped off. That is good.

Be careful with the narrow openings, as the snake may get stuck when it grows bigger. I always thought a snake would be able to back itself out. Unfortunately, I learned that they aren't always able to!
I had a Cali king get stuck in the drainage hole at the bottom of a clay flower pot. I couldn't back it out, and I had to literally tuck the rest of the snake into the pot, turn it upside down, and break it with a hammer. The snake still has a scar, but seems alright otherwise.
God bless him, but through the entire 2 hour ordeal, he never stopped trying to bite me!
