Incubator humidity percentages

Omnivorous Feb 21, 2009 10:29 PM

What humidity % do those of you who breed leos keep your incubators at. I am getting mixed info. 60%-80% some say 85%, I keep getting varrying numbers. Is it bad to go too high? I am makeing an incubator from a wine cooler and have seen some designs that use a big pool of open water they say to bring up humidity. Or tubs of water. I think these guys are trying to have near 100% humidity though. I would think a smaller open water sourse would be better for increaceing humidity but not sure if really high humidity is bad.

I know about useing temperature to breed for sex. I am trying to find what humidity % should I be at. Is it bad to go for ultra high near saturation humidity? I am told 75%, one guy says 70-85% one says 85%, another guy says measureing humidity isnt that important. Trying to get an idea from experienced breeders what range their incubators are as far as humidity is concerned. I am not talking about temperatures. Temps would be in the upper range as I have a 2nd smaller incubator wich I will use for the first few weeks to controll the sex then move them into the "warm" incubator for better colors/size.

Go to Albeys To Cool Reptiles site above, and go to the care section, and it will tell you the proper way to incubate eggs.

He gives you a proper vermiculite to water ratio there.
