Trip to MN pics!

jpman78 Feb 22, 2009 11:42 AM

Yesterday a couple fellow Iowans and myself took a day trip to the Minneapolis area to pick up some snakes and get some pics. We stopped and saw both Marc Bailey and Bruce Delles and had a GREAT time (despite getting home at 3:30am)

Bruce has been a great person to deal with both from a business standpoint and as a personal friend. He is definitely a breeder on top of his game.

It's hard to say a bad thing about Marc. He's got great animals and is a top notch guy!

Hope you enjoy the pics and thanks for looking!

Nice, I take the hour trip up to Bruce's place every chance I get. I've never ran into the guy (Probably cuz I normaly go on sundays) and I think next time I go I'm gonna try and check out all the balls they got if they aren't busy. Never gotten to see Marc Bailey though.

Thanks for the very nice pictures.

But what is the deal with the name change from special to crystal and from crystal to crystal mojave? Is that official now? I thought I saw a post where Tom Baker was still using crystal for the combo and not the ingredient. While I'll agree that "special" might not have been the best name I find the changing of "crystal" from being the combo to the single gene very confusing. Couldn't someone have just come up with a new name for special? If the above is what everyone who actually has them now is using I guess I'll have to get with the program and go with it. I'm just trying to understand if this change is a done deal or if some are going to stick with the original usage of crystal.

Hopefully Bruce D. will chime in. He very eloquently said that himself and a couple others are adapting a name change to make things hopefully less confusing and met no disrespect to others. I was merely referring to the animals how he did.

The confusing part for me with the old way was crystal was fine for the cross....but super crystal didn't seem to fit for special x special...I kept calling it super special at first

That and a crystal is a mojave x special but a lesser crystal was a lesser crystal.....I liked what is being done with the BELs, lesser lucy, super mojave, lesser/mojave lucy, butter lucy, etc.

hope that made sense :D

I was wondering if this didn't have something to do with Tom calling what now appears to be a homozygous special a super crystal. The speciallesser being called a lesser crystal didn't help either. I guess there has been some confusion for a while and probably will be for a while more. Maybe we should call it the morph formally known as special and come up with some unpronounceable symbol?

Love the Desert animals and crosses. Which breeders are working with them? Any available?

rkreptiles Feb 22, 2009 07:32 PM

Wouldn't it be Tom Baker's place to change the name and not another breed (or couple of breeders) that are in possesion of the mutation?
