Ghost/Anery?

snakeeyes1618 Feb 22, 2009 12:15 PM

This is my yearling Hondo. She was sold to me as a ghost but as she has grown she is starting to get more tipping on her scales and starting to look more and more like an anery to me. What do you guys think? Ghost or Anery?

Thanks again.

I am by no means an expert but it could be a very tipped up ghost, does it have a very very light pinkish hue? Did you pay a ghost price for it?

Then I would say Ghost and the more I look, very tipped wasn't that accurate, just tipped up. I am using an Eee PC that only has a 7" screen so its hard to tell.

You really can't go by the amount of tipping.I have some definite ghosts that are tipped up more than some of my anery's. Just like in the hypo lines you will see a wide aray of tipping or mudding up.
Did you ask the breeder what the parents where that produced it? if it was from a double het breeding or something then there is a chance it could just be a clean anery. If the parents where both hypos (either hypo or ghost) then its for sure a ghost. Also, you can usually check the shed skin and hold it away from the light and see if you can make out the bands. This is not 100% but almost every ghost I have ever checked sheds clear and a anery will leave very dark bands on the shed.
Here is a good example for you also. This little girl hatched out a screamer and I figured she would stay very clean cause she had basically zero tipping out of the egg. With every shed she gets more and more and is almost totally speckled now as a 18 month old.
here she was shortly after birth.

this is her now.

Yeah that is the problem...I bought from a store (not a chain) that usually gets some really great animals....I made that mistake once i amonly going to breedrs from now on....especially since ilearned i live near Mike Falcon and got to see his collection....Darn I kicked myself in the butt that day

I agree for sure with Shannon. I have a ghost female breeder that has a lot of tipping but had none at birth. Her parents were both ghosts.

Shannon, do you have an adult ghost that came from the hypo extreme line (meaning, both or one of the parents is/are hypo extremes)? My guess is it will not have any tipping as an adult if it came from the extreme line.

What do you think?

Hi Ray,
I have a ghost from a extreme clutch and he will be breeding this year for the first time.He has stayed pretty darn clean I will see if I have a pretty recent pic of him.

I also have a extreme ghost that Mike produced last year but he is just a little guy still.Ofcarse he is super clean.

Here is my extreme line ghost from (06)when he was just a new born.

and this was him at about a year old.

and this is him about 10 months ago or so.And whats weird is he looks way beter in person. The flash kinda brings out the dirt on them.LOL...

Here is my little extreme ghost.

Later.

I would say anery.

It is had to say for sure. Many hypos end up with a good amount of black tipping, so to say it is definitively one or the other is tough. I have very nice 3 and 4 year old anery's that looked like yours at 1 year.

I've had some Ghost/Anery identification issues in the past as well...and it is very hard to tell between a clean anery and a dirty ghost...you really need to know what the parents geneotypes are and it also helps to see the other clutch mates.

However, I have a few good pictures showing comparisons between a dirty ghost and an Anery...when looking at the Anery, you'll notice the entire scale is grey in color...where the Ghost is more white or washed out...tipping has nothing to do with it being a Ghost or Anery.

Also, the females seem to be more prone to tipping than the males...from the same clutch...so that's another factor to consider.

In this picture...is a comparison between two neonates, a dirty Ghost het Amel and a dirty Anery het Hybino...both from the same clutch:

Same neonate ghost with two clutch mates (the same Anery het Hybino from above and a Hypo Het Amel 66% het Anery):

Same neonate ghost with a different clutch mate (a light Anery het Hybino):

The entire clutch:

Lastly an Adult Anery VS an Adult Ghost (both females):

Thank for the pics and the info....I know it is a femals and is only a little over a year....after seeing your pics and everyones info I can be fairly confident that she is a dirty ghost...I can try to get some close up pics later but my camera sucks so
