you should worry when the sh*t hits the fan!
if you feed them they will POOP!

Well, my baby hasn't in awhile.
Otherwise, he acts normal, for him.. LOL

Totally normal Matt, people should be more worried if he won't eat! i'm still looking for one of these bloods that don't poop, that's the perfect snake for me

jhnscrg Feb 25, 2009 07:13 PM

You'd love BB then! LOL
Actually, I've seen more urates, but he does go. He also grows. The 10 gal is about history. Looking for something in a mid-size rubbermaid tub.
Getting more attitude also. I have to some taming handling. I don't usually handle my herps much though, but the hissing & glares could get to something else. Also, these guys are MUCH more active out of their cages than Ball pythons.

Sometimes a couple months. Just keep them fed and hydrated and don't worry until they stop eating.

Ok, I know they are a bit slow sometimes in that dept. but he eats & soaks ( making a mess now. Looks like a bigger bowel & tank are in order). And is growing like a weed!

I know this is gross, but I thought it might be helpful for you to see, given the topic. Just cleaned out my three-year-old blood's latest "creation" this morning. As you can tell, a fairly young adult blood can drop a HUGE load! And, for the record, she hasn't pooped since around Thanksgiving. About a year ago, she went for nearly a YEAR without pooping, all the while eating, drinking peeing liquid pee on a regular basis. I worried and worried about the bowel movement issue, but finally, she let loose. I think she was going through a major growth spurt and just didn't have much to expel. In fact, when she finally pooped, it wasn't actually a whole lot more than what you see here (again, sorry for the graphic example...).

So, fear not! As long as they eat and drink, eventually what goes in MUST come out.

It'll be okay!

Just one suggestion for you: mine eats F/T rats, so I soak them in warm water to thaw them out. I figure when they're water-logged, she's not only eating, but she's getting added fluids along with it, too. Just one more thing I'm trying to keep the poop, well, flowing...

Peace, and good luck.

Oh, and by the way, it also helps that my snake spots me a $20 when she takes a dump. She never forgets to tip the room service...

LOL The urates almost look like the slugs my female W. Hognose used to lay in her younger days.

Matthew

boredfoot Mar 02, 2009 04:57 AM

Yeah, those big chunks of urates are really weird. It amazes me that they can pee and still, there's other stuff that crystalizes into urates. I swear if you let one dry out, you could write with it like chalk... But hey, I'm just glad to see it all coming out every so often. When my blood didn't go for a year, and yet continued to eat, it totally freaked me out. They're pretty amazing little aliens.

jhnscrg Mar 09, 2009 06:40 PM

Well, I guess it saves on cleaning time & expenses. Aside from sloshed water, anyway.

I have to ask what type of camrea did you use.LOL only herpers can post a picture like that and have other herpers talk about it like no big deal. ( I wish mine would leave a twenty) LOL
have a good day

Yep, my wife thought I was nuts, but then that's nothing new. Gotta say it's the first photo I've ever taken of poo... I use a Canon 20D. I guess you know you're among good snake folk when even your "crappy" photos are accepted by the group!

Take care Tom.

jhnscrg Mar 11, 2009 06:47 PM

ROFLMAO..
I don't have to take pics of poo to have crappy pics! Still learning this digital photo process..

If you think that is an impressive pile you oughta have to clean up after a big burm some time. I have removed logs that were three feet long and weighed 15-20lbs. Good luck with your blood. They tend to hold things in for a long while. I talked to Dave Barker at the Daytona show and he said it had to do with their sedentary lifestyle. As an ambush predator they sit along a rodent trail for a long time waiting for prey. You don't want to take a dump where you are going to sit for a long time--especially if that smell might scare off the prey you are waiting for.

jhnscrg Mar 17, 2009 06:33 PM

Pretty impressive bowel movement, looked like one of my dogs had taken a dump & someone droped robin eggs on top. LOL

Hate to see a years worth of retained feces!
