Repti-Shield on scrap plywood pic

This shows a single coat, with a second coat only near the bottom.

See how glossy the finish is? Shows all the texture of the wood.

The water pooled up near the top is just that. I threw this in the pool. The finish held up perfectly. Then I scrubbed it with a dish scouring pad, flexed the wood, rubbed sand on it, etc etc. The finish, one coat, is tougher than any polyurethane or paint.

BTW, if you don't use the catalyst that comes with the product, it never really hardens very well, tried that too.

Thanks for the update Mark. It does look a bit glossy. Did it at least level out well? Hard to tell from the pictures.

And I'm not sure if you ever answered my previous question about the catalyst. Is this product mixed 1:1 or 2:1 like epoxy or is it like polyester resin where you just add a few to several drops of catalyst?

Hi Chris,
Catalyst is like that for polyester resin - they give you a very small amount (like tablespoons) that is enough for a qt of Repti-Shield.

Regarding leveling out: It does not level out on its own well at all. The person applying the product has to ensure a level application. And as mentioned time is a factor, so it is best to get one area the way you want it and move on and not come back to that area.

I tried a thin coat, a thick coat and two coats. Thus far, the thin coat seems sufficient to hold up to lots of abuse, so I don't think more is necessary. I can envision a second coat at seams in the cage, but I haven't tried that.
