More styrene cage pics

Typical styrene cage I have where I mounted a radiant heat panel and removed the undercage heat. Easier setup for me to control. I have a few of these.

Who says high impact styrene cages can't be big? The top one can fit a helicopter inside.

Are these made by you, from molds?

I'm not that good.

They are "rock" food/water dishes inverted. I added some epoxy putty to build up a few points to raise up one side, used a small saw to cutaway a few areas and applied some non-toxic acrylic stone outdoor hobby paint.

I use the small Radio Shack boxes to splice cables. How uncool am I to post a pic of a junction box.

Mark,

Nice cage. I am curious to know if the manufacturer is actaully stating the plastic used is styrene?

No he did not actually state it. I told him, "I like your styrene cage line." He said thanks. That is not him admiting I guess. So I may be fooling myself.

Another manufacturer with an essentially same product did tell me his was HDPS, and I made the assumption.

In any case, it isn't PVC, it isn't ABS as far as I know but can glue with the same glue ABS can.

ABS and Styrene can be solvent welded with the same chemicals. In fact the S in ABS stands for styrene.

I'm fairly certain the manufacturer is using high-impact polystyrene, aka HIPS.

Thanks Mark. I also believe it is styrene as well but read on other forums that the manufacturer is not disclosing the material.

Styrene by definition is what we call plastic, its a vague statement. Its just the type of molecular grouping.

Kinda like ose the sugar...Sucrose, fructose, glucose...
