Female Breeder Cals?

reako45 Feb 23, 2009 03:40 PM

Guys going to breed Cal Kings this season, whether brumated or not, when preparing your breeding age females, how much food and how often do you offer. I have a good sized(3.5'+) WC female that just began feeding again. She eats 2 adult mice every 5-7 days. Hop[ing to see what's worked well for experienced breeders in the past. Thanx.

Stuff the females like sausages.

As much as she will eat.

Well fed females do not need to feed before their first cycle. But do need to feed if they multiclutch.

Of course, you can feed them if you want. Also, if you have a thin female then, feed the beans out of her.

I will again refer back to nature, most colubrids do not feed until after they lay eggs. Then feed like crazy.

But this is not nature, so its up to you. Cheers

I am curious how you know that wild females don't eat before laying their first clutch.

My captive females are ravenous during spring. Granted they probably can't get as cool as they could in the wild...but even so a snake that is reproducing could always use the extra energy/nutrtients.

Are you suggesting that he fast his snake? You of all people are about listening to what they tell you. Mine say FEED MEEEE!!!!!!!!! Haha
