HELP??!!!

ArizonaB Feb 23, 2009 10:23 PM

I noticed my female leopard gecko was getting ready to shed yesterday, and upon checking her today I had found she was half way through her shed and had BITTEN HER TAIL OFF and was in the process of eating it. She is alone in her own enclosure, and she is a very healthy 6 yrs old . is this something that happens with geckos? I put her on paper towels to keep the substrate out of the wound, should I treat it or just let nature take its course? thanks.

You can feel free to wash the wound with 3% Hydrogen Peroxide initially, but once it starts "scabbing" that's a good thing and further treatment with the Hydrogen Peroxide would be useless.

No, I've never heard of that happening before....odd indeed.

No, this isn't intended to mean anything negative, honest.

In no way would I ever take any kind of help in a negative way. I would hope you guys would tell me what I am doing wrong. Im the kind of person who hates sugar coating. She gets fed a pinky once a week and a mixture of wax worms, mealworms, and crickets during a week. in small manageable portions of course. thank you guys soooo much for all the feed back! you guys are awesome!
