NEW heating and lighting idea that is CHEAP and works!!

Jeff Schofield Sep 11, 2003 01:17 AM

I have been on a trial run using ROPE LIGHTS and I cant be more pleased with them. They easily replace either FLEXWATT and heat rope and is both self contained and CHEAP(about 1/2 as expensive as the next cheapest source!)Anyone else tried this yet??Jeff

I don't use them, but a friend of mine has them going around his ball python's cage. From the looks of it, and depending on how hot they get, they might work... they get pretty warm to the touch... Maybe getting a temp gun and seeing how they work.
If it is plausible to use them...hell I've got over 150ft in my room alone...

I believe that boaphile has lights that are rope like. I didn't look too closely last time I was on the boaphile site. But correct me if I am worng, boaphiles uses rope lights to decoratively decorate and light their racks.

How warm do they get? And what do you do at night? You would still have to get the good old flexwatt for night time use, wouldn't you?

I have 1/4" acrylic caging and from a background temp of 70-72 the hot spot only gets to 88-90 which is PERFECT for most herps. As far as nite time heating, I think most would still be able to use this method as a night cycle isnt necessary to keep most herps and most applications would be placing the rope UNDER the cage...not everyone has clear-bottomed cages. Thanks,Jeff

Wow. I just saw some blacklight rope lights at Spencer Gifts. I wonder if having one coiled around one side and one around the other would be functional... Now I think I'm going to look into it some more
