Boa Issue - White Blotchy/Dry Scales

shedthegear Feb 24, 2009 07:14 PM

I took out my possibly gravid female super salmon today to give her a small snack and noticed a few off-color (whitish/dry) blotches on her scales. She has been breeding for the past few months and she drinks regularly from the water.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Has she regurgitated lately? The stomach acids will cause this sometimes when it gets on there skin. It also looks like a Baytril burn? Have you had to give her any antibiotic injections lately.

Take care

She hasn't eaten in a couple of months b/c she's been breeding. I offer her a medium sized rat about once a month during breeding season and she hasn't had a meal in over 2 months. She didn't eat today either. So, no regurgitation.

I have never given her any medication either, she's never needed it.

Any other ideas?

From the pic it looks like it could be a burn or a scrape/rub spot. Not being able to make out the texture of the wound makes it difficult to say what it is exactly. are the scales still intact and just discolored or are they damaged/missing?

Check her enclosure for places where she could burn herself or possible hot spots and make sure there are no rough spots/sharp edges that she can hurt herself on.

She actually has a few of these spots on her body. They are about a foot apart from each other and there are at least three.

I don't see how it can be a burn. I have overhead heat in the vision cage which is kept no hotter than 92 right now and no way that she can rub up against it.

I also have another female in the cage with her as well as a male. Neither of those two boas have these blotches on them.

It actually looks like the scales could be missing, not just damaged. The areas feel dry and rough.

I take that back. Scales aren't missing, just dry and white.
