My gecko has a problem. Need advice asap

wspatterson Feb 25, 2009 04:06 AM

My gecko just shed and he didn't shed properly about his toes. So, I was about to get him and give him a soak to help with that when I noticed he has something bulging from his vent. It's just a round lump of flesh. I know he's a he, but that doesn't look right. So, can someone give me advice on what to do here. Should I take him to the vet?
Thanks.

To have any idea we would need a picture. If you could post one that may help. But I would suggest getting him to a vet ASAP. gl

It might be a prolapse.....a stuck everted hemipene(male sex organ). Keep it off of loose substrate and in a sterile cage and get it to a vet as soon as possible.

I decided to not wait for a reply to my post and took him to the vet. It was, in fact, a prolapsed hemipene. The vet said he got a better result than he'd expected, mainly because I got Digger into him so quickly.
Thanks for the replies.

Fast reaction time probably just saved your gecko a lot of pain.....Good going!

Glad to hear it worked out!
