Where is the White Throats

bear24 Sep 11, 2003 02:06 AM

I have 1 unsexed Varanus albigularus albigularus(cape or white throat monitor) smoochie. Over my many searches of the net and magazines I cannot find a single person breeding White throats. All I see are wild caught and imported CB. Of the places I do find with V.albigularus they always are limited too ionidesi(black throat). I want to have a female white throat just so smoochie has a girl(if he is a she then at least they won't fight). Smoochie's current enclosure is pine with a divider in the middle one side has linoleum floor with large water pool. The other side has 150watt ceramic bulb and heating pad(both get nice and hot). Enclosure measures 44" by 36" by 14". What size of enclosure would a 1.1 pair(white throats) feel comfortable in. I will need time to build it that is why I'am asking now. Smochie is about 26" and will need to be moved too a larger enclosure next year and I want too start drawing plans and playing cupid. Outdoor enclosures are out. Any info on where to find white throats and tips on caging much appreciated. I only need info not arguing so please keep the debates out of forums, unless it is valid.

Goanna ranch has cape bandeds CBB. Yes that cage needs much bigger than it is. Not many people actually breed monitors period, ask for proof if you really want to know who is doing what. Males are very obvious to tell from females. The male has very large hemipene bulges that are almost the size of 2 shot glasses and the tail base looks totally out of proportion, larger than the females. They may or may not get along but you never know. Ive had 2 albigs sent to me as females and they were both males.

for a pair of WTs i would say a cage of around 10x6x5 (LxDxH) would be what is needed. and just because you get a pair or just 2 females, dont be so sure they wont fight.
