Water Dish

Hey all. Quiet around here.

I just wanted to share my observations about drinking.....uhhhh...I mean collared lizards drinking.

My boy Kermit has now started making a regular habit of drinking straight from his water bowl. He laps it up just like a little dog! I know I've been told that they don't often drink from a bowl of standing water. So, is this unusual? I'm just happy to see him do it. I've never seen any of his girls do this. I have always been dripping water from a dixie cup with a pin hole. They all seem to like that and the puddled water on the rocks.

I was just wondering if that was unusual.

I've never seen any of mine eat greens though. I haven't offered any in a long time because it just made a mess and they never even sniffed at them! Should I try again with the greens?

Mine both drink from a dish. I would definitely continue with the greens, too. Ripcord has always nibbled a little bit on salad, but Rorschach always turned up her nose. Now both of them all of a sudden are eating a LOT of salad. They're fond of several greens, but also finely shredded carrot, zucchini, and butternut squash!

What Eve said!

I have the uros, so I'm making salads all the time anyway. Usually it's endive, escarole, dandelion, or maybe watercress, arugula, bok choy, kale, collards, radicchio, etc. They seem really fond of the dandelion and endive.

I don't have any that won't drink from a saucer. I teach hatclings from day one to drink from an almost flat plastic yogart lid. They teach themslves, it is so flat and low with just a tiny lip to it that they can walk through it , so as they walk through they learn to drink without fearing something with sides.

As far as salads/ greens, mine absolutely love kale, tiny cut pieces of collards, endive, shredded carrot/sweet potato, squash, dandilion greens, and flowers, and clover, in spring and summer. Just try things, but start with kale or endive, for some reason they go after that, especially start youngsters.
