Question about colors...

zactell Feb 25, 2009 03:31 PM

My wife has two Columbian Rainbow Boas.
As you can see from the pics there is one that´s much brighter then the other one.

My question is:
Does someone know/think that it´s normal or something unusual ?

It´s color is brighter IRL...
The eyes is much brighter also...

The normal(dark one)is in shed on the pics and the bright shed two days ago.

Mattias,
...That snake has something going on. My guess is that there is a genetic anomaly that is causing it to produce reduced melanin. However, it seems to be different than other known hypo-melanisitic Rainbow Boas.

This is Linda, Mattias wife.

Thank you for the answers,
I got one that wants to buy this snake, but maybe I should keep it instead of selling if it seems to be anything unusual with it?
I also wonder what is the prices of rainbows like this one in the USA ? I also wonder what normal rainbow (E.C.Maurus)and morphs of them costs.

I have searched for pics on rainbows that looks like my light one without any bigger luck.
Do any one have some links to homepages with rainbowboas ?

Thanks again for the answers !
Best regards Linda

the one that wants to buy this knows there is $$$ to be made. if you have no faith in yourself to successufuly make hets and some $$$, you may want to consider a sale, but don't be taken. This snake is worth some $$$

Frank,

Thanks for the answer !
I was offered about 170 us dollars for it.
I now understand that I must keep this nice looking snake, and I will keep it and breed it when time is right.
Maybe it is something genetic and it will be fun to see what there can be from breeding, but it can take some years though
I also asked a big breeder in my country and he told me:
DONT SELL IT !!! So after got some expert help from you all I will keep it and hold my thumbs that we will see beautiful hatchlings from this snake.

Thanks again for the answers !
Best regards, Linda

I'll give you $171 for it...

Just kidding. Someone tried to pull one over on you, glad to
hear you didn't fall for it.

Good luck!

Thanks,
Ed

WOW... that is a nice looking CRB!! Definetley looks like something Hypo-like going on. I'd breed them and keep some back to prove it out. Or sell him for mucho $$$$ That snake I am sure is worth quite a lot!!

Aubrey,

Yes I will do that, I dont know what it could be worth at all.
What do a maurus cost in the USA ? Adult female or male ?
And what do a morph like hypo costs ? I dont think there is any hypo in my country and I dont have a clue about costs for hypos, thats why I ask. I did a trade against a cornsnake so that how this snake moved into our home

Best regards Linda

Linda... you really lucked out trading for it with a cornsnake.

The normals don't go for much, and $170 would be a fair offer for an adult breeding sized male.

BUT, for the CRB morphs that are out there and soon to be out there... you are looking at snakes in the thousands of dollars. If you prove yours out to be genetic... you will have hit the jackpot!

Hi again,

Wow, I really hope so.
It would be really fun giving the world a new morph.
2007 and 2008 I saw maurus for about 60$ each here in sweden.
But this year I have seen only one add on 1.1 for 230$
My other (normal brown adult) female maurus, I bought for about 50$. I do think that they will be worth more soon because its hard to find a adult male here, I have tried without luck
A good sign for the cenchrias value, its a beuatiful snake that should have a bigger value.

Best regards Linda
