Mangrove (Boiga) Eggs!

vegasbilly Feb 25, 2009 09:33 PM

First clutch from this girl. She's over 6' and the sire is my jumbo male..8' and 9#. 4 good eggs and one questionable one. She never looked gravid, only "tells" were her refusing to feed and a complete lack of reaction from her or the male the last time I introduced them. I was hoping these signs were of her being gravid but had no visuals to confirm it...until now.

Yes this is my first experience w/Mangrove eggs though I have another pair breeding now. IMHO they are an underappreciated snake..not nearly as "difficult" as I've been led to believe over the years.
I assume your referring to the male..I have yet to see another that big...he routinely eats the same sized rats as my 11' Scrubs! I'm only feeding him one jumo rat every 3-4 weeks now as he's overweight. He's now in a 4'x3'x3' cage w/lots of branches etc. so he can "exercise" more.
I have some good intel on geting babies started but anyone else out there w/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Let me know if you need any help or have questions about the babies. I raised a few last year and they can be difficult. Be sure to keep the humidity very high and ensure they drink!

First let me say YOU ROCK.In the 80s I had a few newly hatched mangroves they all took fresh hatched english sparrows or zebra finch hatchlings no problem.Again YOU ROCK.

Wow, thanks Archie! Now, where in the heck am I going to get newbie finches?? LOL I've had to affix chick down on thawed mice before w/various species so thats always an option. Initially my imported snakes took thawed split-brained hopper mice like candy so I plan to try split-brained pinkies as well.
