green tree python with little bumps

talks2turtles Feb 26, 2009 08:47 AM

I have a female juvenile biak gtp and she has tiny bumps under a few scales. I squeezed one gently this morning and it popped- a little clear liquid came out (just like water).

They don't seem to hurt her at all. Even when I squeezed it she didn't do anything- and she is defiantly a snake who lets you know if she's unhappy. I purchased her about a month ago and I noticed one or two, now there are more like five. Any ideas??? Should I pop them all?

I cannot appreciate the bumps in the picture. Is this a wild caught animal? I would take it to the vet. Samples can be taken of the fluid withen to hopefully get a diagnoses. It could be parasites, sepsis, a healing burn... a lot of things really.

Good luck and keep us updated

Ian

Thanks Ian.

It seems she had a minor case of snake blister disease (vesicular dermatitis). The blisters were sterile the problem with this is that when they open it can lead to a secondary infection so keeping them clean is really important...
So I aspirated her bumps and put a little hydrogen peroxide on each then a little antibacterial ointment. I bleached her cage (dried it well) and took out all of her natural cage decor (for now) and have paper towels for substrate and disinfected PVC pipes for branches. I also upped her cage temp a few degrees.

so far so good.
