RARE BREEDING PICS

TOM_CRUTCHFIELD Feb 26, 2009 10:45 AM

It's looking like I'm going to have, hopefully, a good year in breeding insular Epicrates. I'm enclosing a few pics for you to enjoy. The first pic is of my massive female Jamaican Boa being bred by a new bloodline male [thanks Joe Waszilewski].

Next is a pic of Fords Boas breeding

Here's a shot of R. Potts female fordi that is in post ovulation shed

sorry here's the pic of R. Pott's fordi in post ovulation shed...thanks

the female fordii looks very full already. Gestation on these is fairly short, about 4 months or so?

Tom,
...Great PICs. Be sure to keep us updated. I am curious to know about differences in reproduction between E. cenchria and the insular Epicrates. The one thing that I see in the mating PICs is that the insular females seem to get into it a lot more enthusiastically. I am wondering if there may be some evolutionary basis in them needing to make every mating produce because they may not have as many potential mates in their smaller and disjunct populations.
Jeff

One interesting thing I've recently learned about BRB'S is when they looked at the DNA all have a CLOSE relationship to Anacondas. When I see the breeding "ball" on insular Boas it highly reminds me of mating Anaconda's. More investigation on the DNA of West Indian Boas is underway even as we speak. It's likely soon there will be seveal generae soon rather than just Epicrates. Jeff, I'll keep you updated if interested with a p.m. as it's a bit dry to post here and not sure many would want to be bored....thanks

It'd not everyday I get to see the other Epicrates.....and what a way to see them! I'm hoping all goes well with those.
