Lost my black ratsnake this morning

nekomi Feb 26, 2009 11:46 AM

I am devastated right now; this morning, my leucistic black ratsnake, Houdini, passed away. He was my 2nd snake, and one of my absolute favorites. He came from

He ate yesterday, and had been eating, drinking, shedding, and defecating like clockwork. This morning, I checked on everyone in the snake room and found him dead. He died with his teeth sunk into his midbody. I've heard of snakes biting themselves in their last moments before, but I can't remember why this happens. If anyone knows anything about this behavior I'd be interested in hearing it.

Anyway, just had to tell folks who would understand... I am going to miss my beautiful guy immensely.

RIP Houdini 2/26/09

I'm sorry to hear it. I lost a lavender TX rat, an albino yellow rat, and a gray rat in the same manner, over the years. The gray rat seemed to have been trying to eat the mouse inside him, that he had eaten earlier that day!

My condolences. I lost 2 snakes last year, but they were new to my collection. Effect not the same. darn, that really sucks. But death is also part of life.

Sincerely,
Matthew

Wow, so suddenly. That really gives the jitters.

I had that happen to a really nice yearling blaze goini that was my prized animal at the time. Came home and found her writhing in agony. An hour later and it was over. My guess is some kind of internal parasite.
