Freak show !!!!

jnjreptiles Feb 27, 2009 11:08 AM

Just thought I would show a few pics of my only actual "pet" ball python. She was hatched last year by Ian G from a weird w.c gravid. There were 3 animals in the clutch that were all the same, the clutch got dried out really bad during incubation and freak show was the only one who survived, but has a tail kink so we will never know what she is....

She has a weird look to her that is very hard to get pics of and a very nice "co-dom" looking belly.

Hope you like her....

Would the tail prevent her from breeding for sure? Nice one...

zippy00_99 Feb 27, 2009 11:54 AM

It's a 50/50 chance of her being able to breed or not. The only real way to know is to try, but with the intent of spending the money on a vet if things start looking bad. The only problem I foresee happening is egg binding, and if that happens she will need surgery to get the eggs out. I would really like to see if it is a new morph.

Fertilization would not be as big of a obstacle as being able to release the eggs once developed . David

It is curled up fairly well, so unless it changes when she is an adult she will just stay as a really different looking pet.

No sense to put her at risk by breeding if we are not 100% sure she can lay eggs safely.

That said I think she could be holding some very valuable genetics.....

Now that I have had a few minutes to think about it. If the others died, and she has a kink, maybe it's for the best that gene not create future suffering of new born ball pythons like the pearl, and some caramels, and some spiders. Enjoy her for what she is, not what she might have.

jnjreptiles Feb 27, 2009 12:19 PM

It has nothing to do with the gene, and everything to do with the eggs getting completely dried out. The other 2 animals had full body kinks and were from eggs that got severely dehydrated during incubation, the one that survived was from a egg that was not as bad as the other eggs.

We have 2 years before the time comes, so she is a pet until otherwise.

If it was one snake, maybe but all 3 animals were just alike, and she is not your typical incubation produced odd ball.

Watever Feb 27, 2009 02:42 PM

Exactly because all 3 were the same that there is big chance it's incubation.

If all the eggs were dryed, the probably is high that's the cause.

If it was genetic, there is more chance that 1 or 2 out of 3 that were different. What ever the parents were (dominant, co-dom, het)...

I don't think from what he stated that genes had any thing to do with it . Like he said the clutch got severely dried out . And that is what most likely caused her kink and mutation as well as the destruction of the rest of the clutch. David
