I know this happened a few days ago, but its still kinda scary regardless.
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h111-80

I know its for primates but the basis for the bill is similar to that for large pythons: that chimp that recently escaped and attacked several people...lots of media coverage...congress rushes to the recue to amend the lacey act...sound familiar.

This was on the daily show last night which was how I heard about it. The sad part is, there was one rep who pointed out that labelling nonhuman primates as injurious to prevent further attacks by primates that are currently owned by people already...kinda like how passing this law for pythons does nothing to affect the already established population of burms. Apparently reason means nothing and the bill passed the in the house. There was also a clip of another rep talking mentioning the problems we have with "crocodiles and pythons". Good thing there isnt a major economic crisis or two wars going on that congress has the time to address these pressing issues.
