Flu Season?

skyfire_1 Feb 28, 2009 08:17 AM

This may be a dumb question but we were just wondering this last night. Everyone in our house seems to be sick right now, and now even our dog is sneezing and acting sick.

Here's the question, can human sicknesses like the flu be tramsmitted to snakes if handling or caring for them?

I seriously doubt it. I do find it interesting that I have a BP with a slight RI and my wife and I both have bronchitis as well. I know it's not connected. Except for my wife and I. It's just annoying. Lot's of wheezing going on. And the snake is the only one who seems to be getting better. Isn't that how life is?

The only things that can be shared between the two species is rabies and worms and other parasites (like ringworm). Also, sneezing is not a sign of doggie colds. Coughing is. Sneezing usually indicates something irritating the upper respiratory tract (something he inhaled). Usually lethargy is not concurrent. See your vet if you are concerned.
Best wishes.

NO the flu can not be passed to your snake. There are not many that can. The ones that can be passed are call zooanadic, Spelt wrong but you get the drift.
