Oldest Emory Rat ??

Wyvern Feb 28, 2009 09:15 PM

Does anyone know what the oldest emory on record is?

I got my emory rat back in 1994 as an adult. I figure she was at least 3-5 years old at the time making her around 18-20 years old this year. This year she began developing cataracts across her pupils, but otherwise appears healthy and strong as a horse. I am just wondering know how much time she might potentially have left.

For comparison:

At work we had a corn snake that passed away just shy of 21 years of age. She too had begun developing cataracts recently, but at the same time had developed some kind of intestinal infection and died before she could be seen by a vet.

And the Copperhead at work is pushing at least 28 years of age (he is probably older than that since he was originally wild caught at almost full grown size back in '84). His visual acuity in one eye has been off kilter for a few years...very very slight cloudiness over the pupil if you look at it in the right angle. Other than occasional bouts with coccidia, he too is doing rather well.

I have one which is at least 20 years old. I got him in 1990 as a full-grown adult. He just got back from the vet for treatment for a respiratory infection and doing great.

At least I THINK it is an Emory - it might be an intergrade of some kind. I have no idea of the history of this guy. He is about 5' long.
