Hatchling Growth

jc_carroll Mar 01, 2009 09:34 AM

How fast does a conservatively fed (no power-feeding) blood grow?

What size is average during the first year, and how long could I expect to take before it reached adult size?

A relative question.. python species grow at a rate somewhat according to what there adult size will be. While Bloods tend to still be become a large snake, I would considered them to have a slower metabolism than other python species i.e. retics, burms and even ball pythons. This in turn may relate to a slightly slower rate of growth but not much! You can expect a 12" hatchling to double in length in the first year, 24" give or take a few inches depending on feeding schedule and/or 'that' blood's individual genetic rate of growth, everyones a little different.
Remember not to large of cage space as juveniles as it can cause many different stresses but as a blood reaches adulthood 3-5 years, plenty of cage space is a good thing.
Hope this helps!
