Missing scale?

Andres Mar 01, 2009 11:24 PM

My Baja Cali king looks like its missing a scale right above her mouth between her nostrils. I tried to get a picture, but she wouldn't cooperate and whenever I got her still the pic was blurry. I couldn't find any pics online, either. She acts like a regular snake but I'm just curious about what it might be. I doubt it was from her eating cause shes only on pinkies. Any ideas? Thanks.

Oh, and it looks like there's a small scale regrowing or shrinking, whatever is happening. Around that is a light grayish color.

It can be stuck shed, but more than likely an injury from trying to escape. If they don't like the conditions in their cage, they can and will rub their snouts raw and the scales will come off trying to find a way out.

If you take a look at the milksnake forum I posted a pic or two of my patternless hypo honduran and also a male from the same line that is hypo but not patternless. They both have a "missing scale" as it seems and the founder of those snakes said it was there from the moment they hatched. I have a few brooksi that have the same thing going on. Let me know if yours looks like that too.

Can you post a link? I can't find it.

JT: the pictures in the link don't work (for me at least) if this is the one you're referring to.

If this link does not work, go to the milksnake forum and scroll down about a third of the page to where one of the posts says SOME MILKS!!! and next to is the poster being JTColubrids. Hope it works, let me know if it does not and I will just repost pics on this forum. Sorry about the trouble

I think were talking about different things, mine isnt on the top of the head, its right about the center of the mouth. I think its just the way her scale is, though.
