Are these BLAZE Goini??

Jeff Schofield Mar 02, 2009 12:52 AM

I have had these for years and have seen alot of nice red goini babies but I recently got some of these from the classifieds(without pics) and would appreciate some ID help. The pics arent the best, but I cant see the tell tale yellow on the head...

No. They are not Blaze (hyperythristic) but they could be het for Blaze.

Even better they might be het for Blaze and some other trait. Who you got them from might answer some questions! Some breeders are not that up on the hyperythritic morph of the Aplachicola king.

Ya, I know, but some guys like to put the more $$ name on a snake in the classifieds to get more $$. I know it happened to the PB trait of yours Rainer, and its just not cool when these jobbers do it on purpose to intentionally mislead those of us with $$ and still buying in this economy. I know I am certainly appreciating every sale a bit more lately, doing more for the customer not less. Oh well.

So then, the blaze trait behaves like a simple recessive and blaze crossed with blaze gives all blaze offspring? They are truly beautiful!

It seems to me that Apalachicola kings (goini, meansi, or whatever) are underappreciated in the hobby. I picked up a pair of '08s (one blotched and one striped -- neither blaze) and they're not only beautiful, they also have great "personalities".

Yes Blaze is a simple reccessive.

Yes, they are underappreciated. But I think part of the reason is you don't have the mix of morphs to make them really interesting. I saw a table full of Blaze and other goini at the Daytona show in 2008 and after the show they were all still there. Too many people spending their hard earned dollars on a stupid pet rock snake called a Ball Python.

This year I am going to buy some of those Blaze goini just because I like them and they need to be experimented with.

Here are some experiments with goini x Florida kings. To bad the goini has to be basterdized. But you can see where the beauty and the possibilities exist:

Gulf Coast line of lav florida king x goini

lavender and snow sibling

Gulf Coast lav x Blaze breeding

One of my Gulf Coast adults

Stipp line Lavender Florida x goini
