Difference in morph skin texture?

violetdixie Mar 02, 2009 08:03 AM

I was wondering if anyone else noticed a difference between their snakes in skin & scale texture/firmness.

For example, my female spider's skin feels softer and less firm than any other of my ball pythons. My albino's skin has this "squeaky clean" kind of feel, and feels firmer than any other BP.
My spider is around 900grams and she is the same size and age as my albino female, so I don't think it's about who's more robust in this case. Neither female has ever had health issues, and they both have full sheds every time.

Does anyone else think it's a genetic thing? Anyone else notice that their spiders feel different?

Thanks!

I have also noticed that my spider has softer skin than my other ones do but I thought it was just chance. I wonder if it is genetic.

I was thinking my male spider was silky soft because he is still so young. Interesting...

Haven't noticed it with my spiders but both my albinos have a different "feel".

My spiders don't feel any differently than my others. But I do notice that even across just my normals, there are just subtle differences to how the snakes feel - but I attibute it more to their general body tone. For example, my rock solid female has tight feeling skin, where my normal that likes to lay "flat" in her enclosure's skin doesn't feel firm like the other one.
