First rack ?'s

rockofpa Mar 02, 2009 07:19 PM

Hey guys, I just got my first rack from Boa Master. 4 high 34 qt. First I'm wondering where do you mount or place the probe, in the tub, on the flex watt, on the inside side of the rack? Second question well maybe it's a poll but how many holes do you reccomend in the tubs front and sides, I'm in PA if that helps my room temps range from 68 in winter to almost 90 in summer without the air on of course. I will be using aspen also. Third question how many of yous use hides in thier racks? Are they needed in enclosed dark racks? Last request I'm just curious to see some of your tub set-ups. Thanks

Hi -- I'm not expert, but have some experience so maybe some others will add to this..

Place the probe in one of the bins near the heat source. You want to monitor close to the heat source to ensure that the temps aren't getting too hot. You'll need to test different areas and then tape it down where you feel is best. You don't want the snakes moving around the probe because if for some reason the probe gets moved far away from the heat source you might burn up your snakes.. Trial and error pretty much..

As far as holes in the tub others can chime in on it. For some of my tubs I just went crazy with a drill and drilled a good bit so they could breath, you'll want some airflow in the tubs so keep that in mind.

Your tubs should still have a hide in it for them to feel secure.

Most people go lidless in the racks but this is your decision.

GL and let us know how you like the boamaster rack!

Thanks, someone told me also to tape the probe to the flex watt and adjust the temps from there. Does this sound right also? I'm pretty excited about the rack it's a new plastic series that Boa Master is trying out. I've always liked the look of thier cages and racks but not the weight and other issues that go along with wood, so this was a easy choise when I saw it at a show. Any more info would be great.

That is what I do for all my racks prob secured to the heat tape. As far as holes in the tubs it is pretty much up to you, I have some tubs with just holes in front and back and some with holes all the way around. It depends on how your humidity is in the room you keep them. More holes less humid and vise versa. Hope this helps..

how do you secure it to the flex watt? Right now I'm using masking tape over the probe to hold it on. As far as how many holes I'm putting in the tub I think for right now I'll go with 4 in front and back. The humidity is pretty much at 20% or less in my house now so I gotta try to keep it up in the tubs.

I use a piece of aluminum tape to hold the probe onto the flexwatt for monitoring it's temp - it works great.

Good idea I'll use a piece of that
