Ver concerned.....Help?

jsschrei Mar 03, 2009 07:24 PM

I have a new CA boa that struck and hit his tub 4 times (pretty violently) the day after I recieved him when I walked past his rack. I have not handled him since he is new and I was giving him time to adjust over the last 5 days. I checked him out today (no striking this time) and he has a HEAD WOBBLE! I am really worried! Can they hurt themselves enough to cause some inflammation or nervous problems after striking their tub that hard? I am concerned that it is IBD. He did eat on Sat 2/28. I got him from a VERY reputable breeder and he is captive bred and born. I had him in the QT rack, but have moved him to a critter cage with UTH and a lamp on another level of the house now, away from the other QT animals.

Any insight would be tremenously appreciated!
Thanks.

i would start by covering the sides of the critter keeper cage, being that exposed could easily be stressing him out enough to strike!!! (and striking could give him some physical problems too...)

Make sure he isn't being stressed out, and then see how he is after a week... good luck!

He does have the black reptile basics hide. But I have covered the sides of his isolation critter cage like you suggested. Also, the room I moved him to is a very small bathroom and traffic in/out will be limited. His little head does look a little swollen- more bulbous than wedge- but that can very well be my imagination wanting it to be from hitting the cage so hard instead of IBD.

Thanks for responding. I'll keep an eye on him
