Need advice on mot het sharps size....

sun_king Mar 04, 2009 07:52 AM

This guy is driving me nuts. He eats like a feind but refuses to put on any girth. He is growing like a weed length wise but not wide. I have had fecals done to check for parasites and they came up negative. He seems to be growing like a retic where they grow long and then start filling out. Trust me this guy has all the proper temps and humidity and eats like a champ but he just will not put on any girth. I will keep feeding him smaller items more often since I do not think he can handle bigger prey items but he eats a decent sized jumper every 5 days. I am not worried about his health but just don't know what else to do about his size. Anyone else have any suggestions?!? Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions anyone might have.

I would say no worries. Since he is a male and you say that he is growing makes me think nothing is wrong. If he wasnt growing in length, then you may have reason for concern. Is he an 2008 or 2007 ?

He is an 08 from Big Mike. He is eating and growing but just not putting on much girth.

He will, just give it some time. Mikes animals are awesome. I have an 07 motley het sharp female as well as 2 sharps that are all doing fantastic. The motley is just staring to really fill out for me now, and she is eating 2 small rats every 7 days.

I have a motley het snow that did the same thing, except he didn't grow at all for the first 8 months. He ate great pooped fine, had no issues! Stayed at 55g for 8 months and then gained 100g in the ninth month and a 100g every month after that he is still small for a 07, but he is growing nice now. Maybe something with the motley gene who knows! Good luck with him, just keep him feeding!!!!

Did you say HOPPER MICE?

Its 09 , move him to rats. Every single motley I have owned as been a great feeder and all started on rats.

Some good sized rat fuz will get him good.. good luck
