Need Some Help

amr1111 Mar 04, 2009 08:07 PM

Hey, I have a female bp and I really want to get a male to go with her. There is a reptile show coming up and i was just wondering, if I get a male that is around the same size as her, will they be ok?

If you mean live together - no balls should be house separately.

If you mean to breed that should be fine if your female is of good size age and health any size breeder male will do - make sure you quarantine for at least 30 days prior to introduction.

It depends on how big your female is. If she's under 1500 grams and two years of age...she's not ready to be bred this year at all.

You can certainly buy a male at the show, but I don't recommend breeding or putting him in with the female this season at all. By the time he is out of quarantine (should be at least a month, 3 months is better to ensure he is eating well, doesn't have any health concerns (ie internal or external parasites, other diseases which may take longer to manifest), the breeding season will be over for the most part.

I would recommend a pastel male. Relatively cheap, and you will make pastels the first year. Mojaves have come down a lot as well. Buy the animal, do some homework on breeding size of the animal, but make sure you house them in separate enclosures until ready to breed. At that point do more homework on breeding. If you have any other questions, the people on this forum are experienced, intelligent, and kind, so feel free to ask away. Good luck

Have you thought about how you would incubate eggs?
