olive vs papuan python

ADDICTED23 Mar 05, 2009 06:51 PM

who works with the papuan? whats the temperment like compared to the olive? im narrowing down my picks for next snake to buy and its a toss up between the two. its hard to find either readily available but i hope to aquire either next month so i was wondering if anyone had any opinions or pics.
i ask awhile ago about olives (with the choices being burm, retic, or olive) and decided these two were my favorite choices.

Baby Aussie Olives I have, but not Papuans. I trust the Aussies more and I've had both. Besides, Aussie females don't try to eat their mates, lol. Papuans are harder to breed than Aussies, and THEY aren't easy. Papuans also seem to mature about 3=4 years longer, also. Both are cool snakes, but with large Papuans, you always have to be..."careful"

I have worked w/ both.. and agree with Jaykis.. one thing I will add, I have found A papuana to be pretty territorial while in the cage.

and to echo the previous post.. you have to be really careful as they will eat each other.

They also tend to be bigger then olives, so require bigger cages and are more expensive to feed as adults.

I have never worked with Papuan Olives, and I'm fairly new to the Aussie Olives. I have handled both breifly via Jay, and I just simply like the Aussies better -- I think they're prettier with a beautiful face. The Papuans have (the only way to describe it) dark lines around the major scales of their face, and I think that makes them lass attractive than the Aussies.

And than there is of course the whole Cannibalism thing...
