Nest Box Questions?

stevebp Mar 05, 2009 09:31 PM

What would serve as a good nest box? Should i place it on the warm side or cool side? Should i replace the substrate with moss all together? Just worried about coming home from work and finding the eggs layed on the warm side (88 deg) and stuck to the bottom.
Thanks
Stevebp

I have always used a plastic shoe box as a nest box, making sure it is large enough for the female to get in. And I do use moss as well. Some breeders do not even use nest boxes because the female will coil around the eggs anyway. I put the nest box in the middle of the tank so that it is not too hot.
Hope this helps

I hope I don't offend by giving away this tip, but I think it's a great one. Someone on here lines their tubs with plastic mesh canvas over newspaper. Then when the female lays and coils they can be removed canvas and all.
