Rabbits vs. Pigs

VinnyButch Mar 06, 2009 10:33 AM

Does anyone know which is better, nutritionally for large pythons? I have an opportunity to get a bunch of small pigs (2-4 lbs) at a great price. Even better is that the seller is local, so I don't have to pay shipping fees.
I've always fed the big guys rabbits and guinea pigs. I'm hoping they'll take to the pigs easily. But my real concern is whether the pigs or rabbits is more nutritionally complete for the snakes.
Anybody have info or opinions they can share?

Thanks,
Vinny

I have always used rabbits for my large pythons and anacondas as I feel they are nutritionally superior to any other available feeder types. Analysis has shown them to be of significantly greater protein content and less fat content than pigs of a comparable size. I think pigs would be acceptable as a food source, but I would probably not use them exclusively.
