Is there anything else i can do?

RedQuake Sep 11, 2003 12:15 PM

Hi all,

This morning i found that two of my new babies have skin on their toes (on one foot only) from shedding last night i guess. I took each one out (they didn't struggle at all and just sat in my hand) and put a wet cotton swab on their foot as well as put damp paper towels over a good portion of their tank. Should i try and pull off the skin? Using the cotton swab i pulled most of it off and its just hanging on by a little bit. Both of these ones are avoiding their humid hides....i've put each one in their own hide but they both run out of it.

To update, i've named a few of them now. Blizzard male is Bronx, blizzard female is Nala, Tremper Albino is Ali and the reduced patter is Zoe. I'm watching A Bugs life right now for any cool names, and i've got Antz and a few other movies out hehehe.

Thanks
Red

What are u using in the humid hide? I had my female on paper towels in her hide but I changed them since I am hoping she is going to lay any day now. I chnaged it to Bed-a beast and after I stuck her in there. She never wanted back in there at all and thats where she used to always be. I put another humid hide in there with a bed-a-beast and put her old one back to normal and she is back to normal. Find out what the original owner used and she if that will work. They might just be picky, to get he skin off withought having to pull it off I have always heard to soak their little feet in warm water.

Thankyou

I'll email the breeder as soon as i'm done posting

I'm currently using moist papertowels, the safest thing since they are so small. Soaking is such a great idea.......thankyou hehehe, that totally slipped my mind.

after soaking, if skin still remains, do the q-tip thing with 3%hydrogen peroxide solution. The little bubbles get under the skin and gently lift it away- also disinfects if they are raw at all from bad shed

really I have never thought off that. but its a very good idea.

Sometimes I even add some to their soak bath...just have to watch and make sure they don't drink it...it won't hurt them if they ingest a little, people use this stuff as mouthwash, but not good to drink a lot of it either.

Thankyou Thats a great idea

I'll try that for sure. The skin is off one of the guys. I'll try what you suggested with the other one

Thanks again

Not good for them. I am not sure what the consequences are, but on another forum a person looked it up and found that there are several warnings about eye contact!!!!

Please be careful if you use it.

I just soak and then use tweezers or my finger nail to gently encourage it off and over the nail.

Yeah, I've had to deal with this. :P If the skin is just a day old, it'll come off really easily with a 10-15 minute soak. Just rub it off with a Q-tip while they're still standing in the warm water. Definitely get it off ASAP, because the skin will get more stuck on the toe the longer you let it stay there.
