Feeding

eddiemnoian Mar 06, 2009 10:54 PM

My snake, seems to only want to eat a fuzzy every 1.5 to 2 weeks, what tips would you recommend to get him to want to eat more? Hot side is about 86 and cold side is 72. He's an arizona mountain kingsnake and mostly likes to stay on the cold side under his water dish.

Have you tried offering another mouse right after the first one is swallowed.........if not, give that a go.

How do you offer the mice? Try setting two mice right next to each other in the cage, then leave the snake some privacy to chow.

It would be helpfull if we knew how big your snake is.Also was the fussy FT or alive ? You guys ask for information but don't give information.Try giving it live food and if you can slip a second FT in before he finishes the live.Thats a great trick if you can do it but it takes practice.

My pyros seem to have their own feed cycles.Try to learn the second thawed trick (live first then slip in a ft as the live is about to be swallowed)it will help grow your snakes faster.
One other trick is to hold a FT large pink right up to your pyros mouth and see if the snake takes it.You have to learn how to neck hold your snake and that takes some doing. Two of my pyros get most of their meals this way.
Maybe try a moist hide box as well as a dry hide box and make sure its tight around them.

I feed mostly once a week...they eat they eat they don't they don't...pyros will eat everything I give them....for a few months then stop for months...most snakes will do this...no problem, nothing we can do...almost....

it eats....feed it once a week....3 small fuzz....if it doesn't eat ....let them in for days....then take them out....again...nothing we can do...except make the cage correct...or more correct...(SEE FR for this info).....

I think the 86 side is too hot.....my pyro hates being under 80 and over 84 I would say...most snakes are in this range...even balls won't lay in 87 all the time.....

......if it grows slower...it will be more healthy....really....
