Animal Planet annoying anyone else?

wRobio Mar 09, 2009 02:16 AM

I remember a time when Animal Planet had interesting shows you could watch. Now, 95% of the time I look at what is on, it is some show about people getting attacked by animals and making all these really amazing creatures seem like terrible beasts.
Does anyone else miss the days when you could find out some interesting factoid about animals you knew little about, instead of always hearing about so and so hiking and getting eaten by a shark/cougar/dog.

Sadly, the objective is ratings, not education or intellectual standards.

I remember when Steve Irwin(Crocidle Hunter) was still on animal planet that was when animal planet actually had some good shows on there.
If only Steve could come back.

I agree, sure do miss that crazy nut bar Steve Irwin, and I definately don't mean that in a negative way, he was the most enthusiastic, energetic, and charismatic person ever to represent reptiles, and all animals for that matter.. ever, and his passion was infectious. If he were still alive I think things would be very different, and he would probably be freaking out about some of the legislature and general tone towards keeping reptiles, ect. and I'm not sure, but I think, some issues and people would be "stepping down or climbing down off of" the rath of Steve Irwin.

I would just be happy if they would stop calling ball pythons dangerous snakes, and calling pythons boas, and boas pythons...and in general, know what damn animal they are talking about.

yes. brady barr. what a drama queen. it'd be great if he stopped screaming constantly, and took it easier on the snakes - he really strangles them.

but the screaming... ok ok, we know its a big one... just stop yelling for one second.

...villainous behaviour, etc, etc...

Animal Planet is the same as the rest of the channels.

'Reality' television.....umm, yeah, reality...

I've grown used to it.
Or I suppose I haven't, since 98% of my TV viewing consists of MMA and documentary films.

Documentaries and mixed martial arts. All the reality TV I need.

What ever happened to Austin Stevens? I never see him on there anymore.

BackBeat Mar 10, 2009 02:07 PM

I just caught his show for the first time on Discovery (Canada) last week.

Is Austin Stevens authentic or another of television's 'pre-fab Explorers'??

In the episode I saw he was hunting rattlesnakes on Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

The rattlesnake we are shown in the cut-to 'stock/captive footage' while he is searching is deep in shed.

The rattlesnake he captures as the 'realization' of his vision/conquest?
FRESHLY SHED....

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Ever watch that 'Man VS Wild' show?
Catch the episode where he was taming/breaking/saddling a wild horse?
That wild horse had horseshoes. Aaaaaahahahaha
And he loses all credibility with me. YEP....

I'll stick with my fellow Canadian, Les Stroud, AKA Survivorman, for outdoor adventure shows.
Sure, he's not looking for snakes. But, when he does find one, he genuinely offers up a non-threatening, educational lesson.

Did you see the one where Bear comes across a BEAUTIFUL full grown boa? He killed this huge gorgeous creature for ONE MEAL!!!!!! I liked the guy until he did that. That pissed me OFF!! I turned the TV off and threw the remote at the couch, and my girlfriend was like.."umm WTF..lol" So I told her, and she was appalled.

I hate the direction they have taken this channel. I miss the days of good programming. Not sure what has caused this change. My kids even got scared by one of the commercials with monkeys spraying blood everywhere. Not a watchable channel anymore.

Amen to that statement, I used to watch animal planet all the time, I gave up even bothering to check and see if anything good is on. I think it went downhill ever since the gianormous loss of Steve Irwin the croc. hunter.
It used to be more balanced, now its just vet shows, animal cops, dog shows. They should just rename it the cat and dog planet.

I've recently noticed a huge change in their programming. I used to have that channel on most of the time. With all the new "killer critter" shows and now the Jockey show that continually shows horses and Jockey's getting hurt, I rarely watch that channel. And that darn Monkey commercial is very upsetting! Seems everytime I turn to that channel, something is suffering or getting eaten alive.

What are they thinking over there at Animal Planet???

Perhaps a letter writing campaign is in order?
