Rats or Mice

Bogey22 Mar 09, 2009 01:34 PM

I keep mainly rat snakes and was curious what is over all the most nutritious - rats or mice. I saw the pdf file below but was hoping some one could just give me a solid answer (otherwise I would have to actually figure something out for myself!).

Thanks

My personal opinion....if you are just buying and feeding (not raising the rodents) then get what you want/ can. My adult ratsnakes love small rats and I think they are more filling. But whether they are more nutritious is comparing game hens and small chickens to me. Is there a difference to the snakes really? I don't think so. BUT to get the same mass of mice to rats....a small rat weighs somewhere around 3 times what an adult mouse weighs. Something to think about.

If you are raising them and not feeding neonate snakes.....get rats. They reach a better size much faster and they smell way less. Their ONLY down in my opinion is that they take up more space.
